RESEARCH/MONITORING NEEDS (source(s) of need)

Monitoring

  • Priority monitoring action – Conduct Mexican species-specific surveys (PIF Monitoring Needs doc)
  • Second priority monitoring action – Conduct species-specific surveys in the U.S. (PIF Monitoring Needs doc)
  • High priority candidate for rapid status assessment (PIF Monitoring Needs doc)

Distribution of populations/habitats/breeding sites

  • Surveys of TBPA nesting and potential nesting areas to allow conservation of crucial habitat (BNA)

Predation

  • Determine whether goshawks are a threat to TBPA in Mexico ( Arizona )

Migration

  • Determine migratory habits and migration routes of TBPA ( Arizona ; BNA)

Wintering

  • Information on TBPA wintering habitat use and range, as well as threats (BNA)

Captive Breeding/Reintroduction

  • Determine feasibility of brood manipulation for captive rearing of TBPA ( Arizona )
  • Determine whether a migrant or resident population of TBPAs would be most likely to survive a reintroduction in Arizona ( Arizona )
  • Develop low risk methods for translocation of wild-caught TBPAs ( Arizona )
