RESEARCH/MONITORING NEEDS (source(s) of needs)

Monitoring

  • Priority monitoring action – Conduct Mexican species-specific surveys (PIF Monitoring Needs doc)
  • Second priority monitoring action – Conduct species-specific surveys in the U.S. (PIF Monitoring Needs doc)
  • High priority candidate for rapid status assessment (PIF Monitoring Needs doc)
  • Work on methods to monitor RCPA populations, including roost counts for regional studies and breeding pair counts for local studies (BNA)
  • Determine if source and sink populations of RCPA exist and where (BNA)

Habitat Needs/Ecology/Life History

  • Determine if food is a limiting factor to population productivity and if chick growth can be used as an index of habitat quality w/ regard to food (BNA)
  • More information on RCPA diet to establish relationships with seasonal movements & fluctuations at roosting sites (BNA)

Effects of Management Practices

  • Evaluate effectiveness & broader applicability of efforts to work with farmers/ranchers to conserve RCPA in northeast Mexico (BNA)

Demographics

  • Develop information on emigration, immigration, productivity, and mortality to model RCPA populations (BNA)
