RESEARCH/MONITORING NEEDS (source(s) of needs)

NOTE:  See Recovery Plan for additional research/monitoring needs.

Monitoring

  • Priority monitoring action – Conduct species-specific surveys (PIF Monitoring Needs doc)
  • Second priority monitoring action – Conduct Mexican species-specific surveys (PIF Monitoring Needs doc)
  • Predict abundance and distribution of BCVI habitat based on current and future expected land use practices (TARP - Edwards Plateau )

Habitat Needs/Ecology/Life History

  • Determine reasons for BCVI occupation of a relatively constrained habitat series (BNA)

Effects of Management Practices

  • How does browsing on oak shrublands affect the long-term viability of habitat as relates to BCVI?  (TARP - Edwards Plateau )

Effects of Human Development/Disturbance

  • What are the effects of hiking and/or biking trails on nesting BCVI?  Tolerance levels?  Trail width? (TARP - Edwards Plateau )

Landscape

  • See needs under “Distribution of populations…”

Species Interactions

  • What other priority species co-occur with BCVI and how do their densities & reproductive success vary with management for BCVI? (Osage Plains)

Wintering

  • Define wintering habitat for BCVI, as well as information on social & foraging behavior (BNA)

Demographics

  • Establish values of basic population parameters, especially juvenile survivorship & dispersal (BNA)

Genetics/Taxonomy/Systematics

  • Answer questions about population genetics of BCVI (BNA)
