RESEARCH/MONITORING NEEDS (source(s) of needs)
Monitoring
- Priority
monitoring action – Conduct boreal surveys (PIF Monitoring Needs
doc)
- Second
priority monitoring action – Conduct migration monitoring (PIF
Monitoring Needs doc)
- Non-linear
analysis of BBS data to improve precision (Canadian Action Plan)
- Verify
population declines of forest birds, including BBWA, thru independent
measures & identify causes of declines (Adirondack Mts)
Habitat
Needs/Ecology/Life History
- Determine
specific habitat needs of BBWA (Adirondack Mts)
- BBWA
ecology/life history information - Metabolism & temp regulation in BBWA (BNA); Information on
mating systems, sex ratio, pair formation, nest selection &
building, egg-laying & reproductive success (BNA); Patterns and
repertoire of songs, geographic difference in songs, and social
context (BNA)
Effects
of Management Practices
- Better
understanding of the role of stand age and stand structure on habitat
quality , reproductive status, and survival of BBWA (Adirondack Mts)
Landscape
- Better
understanding of landscape-level effects of land-use practices on
forest bird populations including BBWA (Adirondack Mts)
- Apply
GAP analysis to
Adirondack
Park
to identify most suitable forest stands and ownership (Adirondack Mts)
Migration
- Control
& physiology of migration in BBWA (BNA)
Demographics
- Determine
demography of BBWA in non-budworm years (Canadian Action Plan)
