 Bachman's Warbler

 

Common Name:  Bachman's Warbler (BAWA)

Scientific Name:  Vermivora bachmanii

Global/Continental Conservation Status:  IUCN 2004 Red List – CR (Critically Endangered)

National-level Conservation Status:  U.S. – Endangered Species Act (ESA) - Endangered (extinct?)

Key Reference(s):  BNA No. 150 (Hamel 1995); species account in South Florida multi-species recovery plan (U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service 1999)

Distribution:  Probably extinct.  Bred formerly in ne Arkansas , se Missouri , sw Kentucky , c Alabama , and se South Carolina .  Recorded during breeding season (and possibly breeding) from s-c Missouri and Virginia south to Louisiana , Mississippi , and s Alabama .  Wintered in Cuba and the Isle of Pines .  Accidental in Florida (AOU 1998).

Habitat Associations:  Moist deciduous woodland and swamp; in migration and winter also open woodland, pine, and scrub (AOU 1998).
