RESEARCH/MONITORING NEEDS (source(s) of needs)

Monitoring

  • Priority monitoring action – Conduct Mexican Breeding Bird Survey (BBS) (PIF Monitoring Needs doc)
  • Second priority monitoring action – Conduct border (U.S.-Mexico) bird surveys (PIF Monitoring Needs doc)
  • High priority candidate for rapid status assessment (PIF Monitoring Needs doc)
  • Supplementary AUOR Surveys - Study the status and distribution of AUOR (South Texas Brushlands); Research the status of target species of the Oak motte/forest, including AUOR (South Texas Brushlands); Distribution of AUOR (TARP - S TX Brushlands); Information on distribution & abundance of AUOR (especially in Mexico ) in breeding and nonbreeding season (BNA)
  • Determine connectivity of Mexican and U.S. source populations of select species (including AUOR) in Falcon riparian/thorn forests (South Texas Brushlands)

Habitat Needs/Ecology/Life History

  • Studies of AUOR habitat use - More information on AUOR habitat use (TARP – South Texas Brushlands); Information on habitat requirements of AUOR (especially in Mexico ) in breeding and nonbreeding season (BNA)
  • Information on home range size and reproductive success (BNA)
  • Better understanding of social interactions in AUOR (comparative analysis of male and female song) (BNA)

Nest Parasitism

  • Information on criteria used by cowbirds to select nests (BNA)
